How to measure obstacles

Record position relative to the analysis point, width, depth and height of each block.

The key step

Start with the correct location, date and time zone. Then set the analysis point and add only obstacles that can actually block the Sun. Comparing several dates is more reliable than one arbitrary day.

Example

For a terrace point, compare the equinox, 21 June and 21 December. Save each variant under a different name, then use the comparison tool.

What can distort the result

• incorrect time zone or coordinates
• ignored terrain height or irregular geometry
• deciduous foliage, cloud and reflections
